now that’s a fruit salad.
well, hello!
it doesn’t feel like saturday to me. i can’t actually tell you what day it feels like, but certainly not saturday. that said, i do remember i told you yesterday that i’d give you the details on a fruit salad made with the bionic baker’s basil simple syrup today. so that’s what day it is. basil simple syrup fruit salad day. tah-dah!
wait. what? you have no idea what i’m talking about? really. well, first, read yesterday’s post. then come back here and read this post, and you’ll be up to speed.
okay, ready? here goes:
summer fruit salad with basil simple syrup
you need:
- 1 pint blackberries - left whole
- 1 pint strawberries - halved or quartered if large
- 1 cup yellow watermelon - in chunks
- a few splashes basil simple syrup
- 2 t orange zest
- 1/4 t freshly cracked black pepper
- tiny pinch maldon sea salt flakes
make the salad:
- combine the fruit in a serving bowl.
- gently pour the basil simple syrup over then sprinkle in the remaining ingredients.
- fold together gently - gently!
- cover with plastic wrap (or a large plate - save the planet!) and refrigerate until serving time.
- upon serving, fold gently a few more times to pull the syrupy juices from the bottom of the bowl up & over the fruit.
if your friends do not LOVE this fruit salad, there is literally something wrong with them.
